HELP US STOP

ILLEGAL

GAS WORK

Every family deserves a safe, warm home. Illegal gas work puts lives at risk. It's time to take action.

At ATAG Heating Technology

We believe that no one should have to worry about the safety of their heating systems. Yet, every year, thousands of illegal gas installations endanger homes and lives across the UK.

Unregistered engineers are cutting corners, risking catastrophic gas leaks, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
It's not just illegal - it's life-threatening.
Gas Sate Register logo Data from the Gas Safe register (GSR) estimates that there are a quarter of a million jobs carried out annually on gas appliances in the UK that are done by unqualified workers.
20% icon Officials deem two-thirds of this to be 'unsafe', with 20% requiring urgent disconnection as it is 'immediately dangerous'.
82% icon Our research found that 82% of installers are forced to rectify unsafe installations by unregistered fitters at least once every quarter.
50% icon Almost half of the installers surveyed warn that this faulty work leads to carbon monoxide poisoning, a threat that claims an average of 50 lives every year in the UK.

Why stop illegal work

Endangers lives: Poor-quality installations can cause fires, explosions, and deadly gas leaks.
Breaks the law: Only Gas Safe registered engineers are legally allowed to work on gas appliances.
Puts homeowners at risk: Unregistered work can invalidate insurance and lead to costly repairs.
Silent killer: Illegal gas work leads to around 50 deaths and over 4,000 hospitalisations in the UK annually.

How you can help

Promote best practice and start the conversation with other tradespeople, suppliers, and clients about the dangers of unregistered gas work.
Report illegal work if you see it in your community.
Talk to friends and family about the dangers of unregistered gas work.
Contact your local MP to urge stronger enforcement and penalties for illegal gas work.
We can't solve this alone. We need your voice, your support, and your action.
